Attendance Calculator
The free attendance calculator and bunk calculator that shows your current attendance %, how many classes you can safely skip, and how many you must attend to hit 75% (or any target) — with a live what-if planner.
Attendance Percentage Formula
Every result here comes from one simple ratio:
Example: 42 attended out of 56 held → (42 ÷ 56) × 100 = 75%.
Can I Bunk? How the Two Modes Work
When you miss a class, your attended count stays the same but total rises by one — so the % dips slowly. A high buffer lets you skip several classes before touching the red line. The tool shows the exact safe count.
Attending a future class raises attended and total together, so the gap closes gradually. That's why recovery feels slow. The tool finds the exact streak of classes needed to cross your target.
Target Attendance: 65% vs 75% vs 80% vs 85%
Set the target that matches your institution.
| 65% | Lenient colleges and some open programs. More room to skip, but confirm it's actually allowed. |
| 75% | The most common university rule (VTU, JNTU, Anna, most UGC-aligned colleges). Falling below usually blocks the hall ticket. |
| 80% | Many engineering and medical institutes. Less room for bunks — track weekly. |
| 85%+ | Honours, internships and lab-heavy courses. Almost zero bunks through the semester. |
Tips & Common Mistakes
Don't miss labs — they carry higher weight. Build an attendance streak for 1–2 weeks straight, and update this calculator every evening so you always know where you stand.
Don't enter absent days in the "Total" box. Don't round 74.6% up to 75% — strict colleges won't. And include the full semester's data, not just this month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 75% attendance compulsory in every college?
Not always. The UGC commonly recommends 75%, but many private colleges and professional courses require 80% or 85%, especially for labs. Always confirm your department rule and set that as your target.
How can I increase my attendance quickly?
Attend every class for the next few days or weeks without a break. Recovery feels slow because a future class raises both attended and total counts at once, so the ratio moves gradually.
How many classes can I bunk if I have 80% attendance?
It depends on how many classes have been held. A larger total means a bigger buffer. Enter your numbers and the tool shows the exact safe bunk count and the % you'd drop to.
Does medical leave count in attendance?
Some colleges condone medical or official leave and lower the requirement, but rules vary. To stay safe, keep your buffer above the target rather than relying on condonation.
Should I calculate theory and lab attendance separately?
Yes, if your college tracks them separately. Run the calculator for each subject or component so a shortage in one isn't hidden inside an overall average.
What if my attendance is 74.9%?
Strict colleges don't round 74.9% up to 75%. Treat the target as a hard floor and aim for at least 76% to stay clear of the detention list.
Can I use this for monthly attendance?
Yes. Enter the total held and attended for any period — a month, a subject, or the whole semester — and you get the % for exactly that range.
What is the attendance percentage formula?
Attendance % = classes attended ÷ total classes held × 100. For example, 42 out of 56 is (42 ÷ 56) × 100 = 75%.
